2023 Tennis Season with Burlington Tennis Club (BTC)

May 2023 Newsletter – Tennis and Pickleball

Welcome to our new and returning members! We are looking forward to an exciting season.

We are starting off with our Season Kick Off Event on Saturday April 29th! It is an opportunity for the community to see what BTC is and what we offer. There will be an opportunity to try Tennis and Pickleball as well as meet other members of the club. ACE will be on site to talk about the programs they offer for Juniors and Adults. We hope to see you at the club between 1:00pm and 5:00pm. Please visit our website for details on the afternoon. It is open to the public so invite your neighbours and friends to this event.  This event will run rain or shine!

Our courts are open now and our programs (both free and fee-based) are all starting up the first week of May. Programs require a signup and can be found on our website under the Member portal – please visit www.btc1.com.

Our May Tennis Program Line-up Includes:

Adult Programs:

  • Round Robin (Co-ed):  The popular program is back on Tuesdays & Fridays to two, 90-minute programs, arranged by skill level. New this year, early and later start for each level:
    • Tuesdays: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm – 3.0 level players and below / 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm for 3.5+ players
    • Fridays:  7:00 pm to 8:30 pm – 3.5+ players / 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm is for 3.0 players and below
    • Advanced registration is required on the member portal under “Register for Calendar Sign-Ups.”  Registration opens 7 days prior and fills up quickly.
    • If you are not able to make your spot, please ensure you cancel to allow a waitlisted member the opportunity to play
  • Women’s Doubles Program (Monday mornings): 
    • Suitable for level 3.0 level and above  
    • Program starts Monday May 1st at 9:00 am to 11:00 am on courts 4, 5 & 6.
    • Advanced registration is required on the member portal under “Register for Calendar Sign-Ups.”  Registration opens 7 days prior and is limited to 12 players (4 per Court)

  • Mixed Doubles Adult Program (Tuesday mornings):
    • New Program this year!
    • Mixed Doubles program open to all levels and will be played in the Round Robin format
    • Program starts on Tuesday May 2nd, at 9:00 am to 11:00 am
    • Advanced registration is required on the member portal under “Register for Calendar Sign-Ups.”  Registration opens 7 days prior and is limited to 8 players (4 per Court)
  • New Member Connections:  Starts Sunday May 7th from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm on courts 5 & 6. Registration opens on Sunday April 30th.
  • Adult Mini Tennis – This program enables beginning players time to play in a friendly and welcoming environment to ready them for full court tennis. Begins Sunday May 7th from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm on courts 3 &4. Registration opens on Sunday, April 30th

Junior ProgramsThe focus is on fun and making new friends. All the while developing hand eye coordination skills and tennis development. The program will be run by BTC club volunteers and ACE certified coaches. Children will bring their own junior racquet, water bottle and snack. Parents are expected to be in attendance as this is not a drop off program. These programs will run on Saturdays for the month of May and June and will change for the summer months.

  • Red Ball (mini tennis)
    • suitable for 4-to-8-year old’s, starts Saturday May 6th, Noon to 1:00 pm
  • Orange Ball (3/4 court tennis)
    • suitable for 7-to-13-year old’s, starts Saturday May 6th, Noon to 2:00 pm
  • Green Dot Ball (full court tennis)
    • suitable for 7-to-13-year old’s, starts Saturday May 6th, Noon to 2:00 pm

Monthly Family Program: Free for BTC members, the Family Program provides a fun time to hit with other families in a relaxed, social setting. The program includes kids playing with kids, parents playing with kids, and families playing with other families. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get some, or all, of the family out to play and have fun while improving tennis skills. All ages and abilities welcome. Coordinated by BTC volunteers and hitting partners.

  • One Sunday per month, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Register online for the May 14 date!

Adult and Junior Pickleball:

We are finalizing the offerings for Pickleball to include lessons! More information to come.

Other Adult Tennis Activities in May:

House League – Sundays from 8:00am to 12:00pm

BTC’s House League provides friendly, mixed, doubles matches among teams of BTC Adult members. There will be four House League teams, captained by BTC players who select players for each match. Teams play weekly in 2-hour timeslots and will be held Sunday mornings.

  • Tryouts for House League teams on May 7th.

ACE Tennis is offering Two Free Group lessons for New Adult Members: 

  • Saturday, May 13th from 2:00pm to 3:00 pm.  -> Registration opens on May 6th.
    • Saturday, May 27th from 2:00pm to 3:00 pm.  -> Registration opens on May 20th

Details:

  • These are for New Adult members only.
  • If your plans change and you are unable to attend, please email shannon@acetennis.ca to cancel your registration to allow a waitlisted member to have an opportunity to join. 
  • These clinics fill up quickly. You can add your name to the waitlist for future openings.
  • Register online under  Adult Programs, then select “Clinic for New members”

Singles Tennis Ladder

The Singles Ladder is a mixed, ladder program that allows friendly, singles competition between BTC members.

  • It’s open for online registration now.
  • Include your NTRP rating when registering so you can be seeded at your level. 
  • For a self-rating guide, visit btc1.ca /About Us / FAQ section. 
  • Players organize their own games. Winning challengers move up the ladder.

As we move into May, please remember the following friendly reminders:

  • Please book your courts on the hour, this helps maintain the most playing time for all our members
  • If you have booked a court or registered for a program and do not intend to play, please cancel your booking and/or registration without incurring any warning/penalty; “No Shows” will not be tolerated and may include loss of court privileges
  • To help maintain our new court surfaces, please wear proper tennis court shoes!
